Atlanta, Georgia

Château Élan

Château Élan Winery & Resort is located 40 minutes north of Atlanta. Golfing at Château Élan is by no means an ordinary experience. With 63 holes of golf framed by lush vineyards and a 16thcentury French style Château, this North Georgia golf destination is exceptional and the South’s best golf offering assembled on one piece of property.

The beautiful 7,030 yard, par 71 Château course, with contoured fairways, three lakes and two creeks opened in July, 1989. Designed by Denis Griffiths, the championship layout was instantly recognized as one of the top courses in Georgia. Water comes into play on ten of the 18 holes while 87 bunkers lend challenge and character to the lush fairways and bent grass greens. Rated 4 Stars by Golf digest this is a wonderful resort course with excellent range facilities. Ranked in the Zagat Survey's America's Best Golf Courses with Very Good to Excellence scores in all categories. A real find north of Atlanta "crisscrossed by hidden creeks" and bumping along on "hills aplenty", the namesake course is "a solid challenge for any skill level."

The Woodlands, a stunning 18hole, par 72 tournament quality course, opened in 1996. The 6,735 yard layout has numerous elevations presenting memorable views of sparkling lakes, and tree lined holes to give players a feeling of blissful solitude. The Woodlands, also designed by Griffiths is considered by many to be the most picturesque of the three championship layouts. Golf Digest rated the Woodlands among the best in Georgia with 4 ½ stars and is ranked in the Zagat Survey's America's Best Golf Courses with Very Good to Excellence scores in all categories.

The acclaimed Legends course, which debuted in October of 1993, was designed by three of the game’s best Gene Sarazen, Sam Snead and Kathy Whitworth. Each of these celebrated golf greats selected six of their favorite holes from around the world and crafted them on to the Legends layout. The result is a classic 18, bearing certain design elements from the legends' selections. Certainly noticeable at The Legends is the tribute to traditional golf course architecture of the early 1900's. The 72 par, 6,967 yard course was the home of the Sarazen World Open Championship from 1994-1998. The Legends is a private club with limited access to resort guests.

Château Élan offers a “Wee Links" three-hole short game course that places a premium on putting, chipping, pitching and bunker play. There is also a 9hole Executive Walking Course featuring beautifully landscaped holes, sand traps and small bent grass greens. This is the perfect venue for new golfers and for those trying to improve their short game. Golf amenities include two clubhouses, two professional golf shops, two restaurants and two climate-controlled pavilions for events. Chateau Elan's three tournament-quality golf courses and extensive practice facilities, short game practice course, and Par 3 Executive waking course provide an excellent setting for your golf school in Georgia. Having a solid course, from customer service to grounds keeping, is Château Élan’s hallmark. The goal of the club is to ensure golfers are treated better at Château Élan than at their own private club. Part of that treatment is ensuring the golf courses are always at their best condition; maintaining the courses at the highest level is a top priority.

Guests at Château Élan have a choice of seven restaurants to discover a cultural array of dishes and ingredients from regional Southern, and All-American to Mediterranean and Classic French. Ambiance and settings range from casual and resort casual to intimate fine dining. Versailles, an open air restaurant under a 45 foot glass Atrium conjures up images of the former Quai d’Orsay railway station and Belle Epoque dining room of the hotel that fronted the actual station, a Parisian landmark from 19001939. Versailles offers buffet breakfasts and lunches. Evenings, Versailles is transformed into a turn of the 20th century Parisian restaurant, featuring metropolitan and contemporary international cuisine served a la carte. Le Clos, in the Winery, is an intimate fine dining room (seating only 28) with a Mediterranean courtyard ambiance. The subtle lighting, the Tuscany rust hued wall coverings, the gentle water falls streaming from mosaic wall sculptures evoke images of a Mediterranean courtyard café. Le Clos offers a pre fixe menu of five courses with the option to include Chateau Élan’s finest estate bottled wines or other choices from an extensive wine list. Paddy’s Irish Pub was officially commissioned in Dublin in 1997 by Château Élan Winery & Resort founders, Dr. Donald and Nancy Panoz. Completely authentic, all of Paddy’s furnishings and fixtures were created in Ireland. The pub was then shipped to Château Élan Winery & Resort, reassembled there, and opened in July of 1997. Paddy’s is a spirited pub serving up traditional Irish food, beverage, and live music. Café Élan has a cosmopolitan ambience evoking images of those cozy provincial restaurants scattered through Europe.

Café Élan captures the cooking and tastes of Mediterranean dishes from the culinary diversity found along its bountiful coastlines. Fleurde-Lis is a lovely, sunny, dining room overlooking the lake and gazebo at the Château Élan Spa. Here beautifully prepared gourmet dishes are served using the choicest of healthy ingredients. Afternoon tea is served with marvelous low-cal desserts and is the highlight of one's spa experience. The Clubhouse Grille is conveniently located at the Château and Woodlands courses right inside the Château Élan Golf Club. A combination of a great view of green and your favorite golfers’ fare will be the perfect setting to discuss the merits of your game. In addition to an All-American menu featuring grilled meats, chicken, salads, the Clubhouse also maintains a stocked bar, big screen TV, and great southern personal service. The Clubhouse Grille features a hearty breakfast menu, lunch, and snacks. L’Auberge serves a range of light snacks and dinner item. From mouth watering delights such as traditional Chicken Wings to dinner entrees like Filet Mignon, L'Auberge has a relaxed sports bar atmosphere with large screen televisions, and pool tables. Enjoy live Jazz and Blues Friday and Saturday nights.

The grand sight of a 16th century style French Château surrounded by lush vineyards coming into view from I85 may conjure up images of the Loire Valley of France. Opened in 1985, the full-production Winery inside the Château is the largest producer of premium wines in Georgia, and recognized by Wine Spectator for exceptional vintages. Visitors can taste and purchase 22 premium varietals of red, white, blush and port wines plus a collection of Georgia specialties that combine the distinctive taste of Muscadine grapes with other flavors such as raspberry, strawberry and peach.
